"A Walk in the Woods"Nature Area

WE INVITE YOU TO TAKE A STROLL IN THE WOODS ADJACENT TO KFHC.

Enjoy the open, shady forest and discover a wide array of plants and birds that live in these woods

FREE Trail Guides are located at our "New Nature Area Trailhead Archway" located at the rear of our side parking area

The woodlands that surround KFHC are a good example of the low-elevation, dry forests of Northeastern Washington. The plants that grow in these areas can survive the harsh, arid conditions and frequent fire disturbances that are typical of this low-elevation environment. As you walk the trail in the woods, use our provided guide to identify plants along the way.

Also, be sure to listen and be on the lookout for the birds that live in this environment. You may see and hear chickadees, nuthatches, swallows, flickers, woodpeckers, jays, ravens, ospreys, hawks and eagles.

Oregon Grape

Ponderosa Pine
